Sonata in progress

I began my first sonata last month. It is being scored for violin, viola, and cello.

I’ve completed the exposition of the first movement so far and many phrases belonging to the development and recapitulation sections — so this movement is about 90% finished.

I plan to finish the sonata in the first half of this year, hopefully the first quarter.

It will consist of four movements:

I – Sonata form, 3/8 meter. Primary theme: B minor. Secondary theme: mostly G-sharp major. Development: various keys. Recapitulation: B minor.

II – Largo, very slow 3/4 meter, Ternary form. A – G Major; A – D Major; B – A minor; B – E minor; A – C Major (second phrase in C minor); A – G Major. Each section consists of two phrases separated by a sequence. B sections are much slower than the others and may be a fugato which is echoed by the next movement.

III – Fugue in F-sharp minor, with slow E major intro. Movement is in 4/4 and will end on a Picardy third — the dominant of the final movement. Double fugue. First subject begins with something like F4 G4 | A5 G C,2 | B,C,D,E, F,2 A2 | G2 B2 | .

IV – Sonata-rondo form or related. In B minor. 3/4 meter. Mostly sixteenth notes. Includes a section of eighth-note triplets to simulate 9/8. C section is much slower than the others.

Notes

Here’s what the exposition sounds like so far (I’ll probably make some changes, especially to those two melodic sequences in the primary theme):
